i make lemon bars!
in this case, "life" = "bestie" and because i took some to a party, i had offers of lemons! i know i will never have to buy lemons when they are in season. Good thing California is known for their citrus :)
February seems to be the month of birthdays, or maybe because it's also my birthday that i notice it more when there are birthdays around the same time. On my birthday, I was working on a Hello Kitty cake for one of my 3 year old clients :) Pink and awesome Hello Kitty Cake. It was my first time trying out a frozen buttercream transfer. It's actually pretty amazing! here is the before and after:
can you believe it? now i know i can do whatever character i want! i need to remember two things: don't work with buttercream straight out of the fridge, i might get carpal tunnel! and Depending on the design, i wouldn't need to do the extra outline. It would keep the transfer thinner, and look better. The lettering didn't have the outline, it was straight turned over onto the cake. I really like that way of doing lettering!
like i said, it was a weekend of birthdays... i had so much pink frosting left over, i made another cake - it was an experiment cake - chocolate cake with orange liqueur and cardamom... it was actually quite good, and one of my friends said it was her favorite cake so far! I was very excited to hear it!
one thing about experimenting with cakes is that you can't just make half a cake to try things out - thank goodness for very willing guinea pigs!
Today is Chinese New Year! Yesterday was the first of several celebrations with friends and family for the Year of the Snake. We had a supper club potluck and being that i like to make cakes and cookies, i made some Chinese New Year treats!
not only did we celebrate the Lunar New Year - but there were four of us there that have February birthdays, 步步高陞!!!
catch more photos of the Chinese New Year treats HERE on Facebook!
Good luck to the 49ers!
